The Treatment

Botulinum Injections

To elevate the top and tail of the eyebrow by 1-3 mm, Botulinum can be injected into the lateral orbicularis muscle, the main lateral eyebrow depressor. This quick procedure usually takes about 10 minutes and involves minimal discomfort.

Hyaluronic Threads

Hyaluronic threads are fine, absorbable threads that are carefully inserted under the skin to lift and tighten sagging areas. For the eyebrow lift, these threads are made of PDO (polydioxanone) and have notches that hook the superficial subcutaneous tissue, applying a traction force. The threads are inserted through micro-incisions (0.5 mm), run in tunnels under the skin to the scalp, and the tension is adjusted to raise the eyebrow. The procedure takes about 45 to 60 minutes and is performed under local anesthesia.

Results

• Botulinum Results: There is no social eviction; the results are visible between 4 and 10 days and can last 3-9 months.
• Hyaluronic Threads Results: After a social eviction of 24-48 hours, the results are immediately visible with a slight overcorrection of 2-3 mm. The final results are seen after about 1 week and can last 12-18 months.

Instructions for Botulinum:

• Avoid hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms for 48 hours.
• Do not stimulate the injection points for 48 hours.

Instructions for Hyaluronic Threads:

• Bed rest without major effort for 48 hours.
• Use an ice mask for 1 week, as often as possible, to reduce swelling.
• Take Arnica capsules 5 times a day for 5 days to prevent hematoma.
• Preventive antibiotic (Augmentin 1 g twice a day for 3 days) post-operation.
• Disinfect with a spray twice a day for 3 days at the thread entry point.
• Follow-up appointments at 1 week, 3 weeks, and 3 months.

Potential Complications

Botulinum:

• Asymmetry, under-correction.
• Diffusion into adjacent muscles: diplopia, eyelid ptosis.

Hyaluronic Threads:

• Secondary displacement of the thread if stimulated too strongly during the first 7 days.
• Nerve or vessel damage, although rare.
• Hematoma, usually resolving within 4-5 days.
• Asymmetry, often pre-existing and subtle.
• Infection, typically treated with antibiotics and local care.
